iflix, the major entertainment service for emerging markets, has been hailed as the Best OTT Video Service at the 21st Annual Telecom Asia Awards. The Kuala Lumpur-based subscription video-on-demand (VOD) service has been selected for its groundbreaking business design.
The yearly Telecom Asia Awards is the most respected and the longest-running awards ceremony recognizing the best performers in the telecom industry. This formal occasion honors operators and service providers in Asia and this year, the theme is “Getting real with digital.”
The winners were chosen by a stand-alone group of industry specialists. Allan Tan, Questex Media’s Regional Content and Strategy Director, cited the criteria for judging: technology adoption, ingenuity, financial performance, corporate governance, business value, and market success.
Tan mentioned that the judges concurred that iflix’s victory in the market is a strong bellwether of the company’s outstanding entrepreneurial strategy. This is in spite of the strong competition posed by international and traditional content providers.
Mark Britt, iflix’s pioneer and chief executive, is thankful for the accolade. On behalf of his company, he expressed his humility for the recognition of the innovation, dedication, and hard work of his over 800-man team amid the dog-eat-dog VOD milieu.
The Australian-born entrepreneur mentioned that in order for his company to thrive in the ever-changing VOD sector, innovation is absolutely the key. With bespoke and localized service offerings to 28 markets worldwide, Britt pointed out that it is deeply ingrained in iflix’s business model to be committed to consumer innovation, superb customer engagement, and being revolutionary, breaking away from the traditional streaming paradigms.
Founded in 2014, iflix has transformed itself into the Netflix of the emerging markets. As one of the leading entertainment streaming service providers in the world, it offers limitless access to thousands of OTT video content like Hollywood movies, Korean drama, comedies, drama, Bollywood, Turkish drama, Nollywood, movies, cartoons, and live sporting events.
