‘The Princess Bride’ will be released in a DIY format via Quibi

Quibi will be releasing a remake of The Princess Bride. Many people will know of this classic from the ’80s! This remake will feature Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, but they will be playing roles that may surprise you. Jonas will be playing Princess Buttercup, and Turner will be playing Westley.

The entire film, directed by Jason Reitman, was shot at home, with cast members using their phones to record their performances. The cast includes Common, Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, Chris Pine, and Annabelle Wallis. Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Andy Serkis, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi, and Zazie Beetz are also set to appear. The cast members will apparently switch roles throughout the film, so you’re very likely to see more than one person portraying different characters.

Rob Reiner directed the original, and he will be playing Peter Falk’s role as “The Grandfather.” The “Grandson” role is heavily anticipated but will be performed by Fred Savage himself, just like the original.

Quibi are donating $1 million to Chef José Andrés World Central Kitchen. This company provides meals to those who have been severely affected by the current coronavirus pandemic that has made life difficult for so many.

While longtime fans might have initially balked at the notion of remaking a beloved film, the clearly DIY nature of this remake (a corgi will play the Rodent of Unusual Size) and charitable cause might be enough for skeptics to give it a shot. The film is set to debut on Quibi on June 29, with chapters set to release daily for two weeks. Quibi shared a quick look at the film via Twitter this weekend

Many fans were not happy with the remake of such a classic film. However, most can accept that this hasn’t been remade in the traditional sense. It has been created as a homemade film, which is not something that fans can take too seriously, and the original film’s legacy won’t get tarnished by this. It will debut on Quibi on June 29, and chapters will be released on a daily basis.
