Amazon will be releasing a watch party feature for anybody who would like to watch content with their friends and family members. This feature will be available to all prime me when using a desktop in the US.Â
Prime members will have thousands of titles in Prime Video’s SVOD catalog to choose from. (titles available at no additional cost to Prime members) including Amazon Originals such as Emmy Award winners Fleabag and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, HANNA, Mindy Kaling’s Late Night, Donald Glover’s Guava Island, Troop Zero, Academy Award-nominated The Big Sick, The Boys, Homecoming, and My Spy among many others.
Hulu and Plex have a similar service, and they also offer synchronized playback. This is something that Amazon Watch Party also plans to include. One person will be in charge of the content, and his person will be the host. There will also be a chat option for those who would like to chat as they watch. There can be up to 100 people in one session. However, each member of the party must have a Prime membership and be based within the US.Â
During this pandemic, most services have tried to make it easier to watch content with friends and family. In a situation where families and friends cannot mix, watching a movie together online can bring a sense of normality back into people’s lives. Netflix and HBO have also provided similar services recently, which proves that multiple companies consider the needs of customers.Â
In terms of how to access the Watch Party, it is a very straight forward process. When you click on the film or series of your choice, you will see a ‘Watch Party’ button not far from the ‘Play’ button. You will also be given a personalized link that you can send to your friends and family – so make sure you get that popcorn ready!
