2024 Has Seen Spectrum Lay Off More Than 1000 Employees

Throughout the course of this year, Spectrum have been laying off their employees. From the customer service department to those in the call center, many have lost their jobs.  They have recently announced plans to shut down their call center operations in Rochester, MN. Not long before this, Spectrum announced further layoffs in Greer, South Carolina – an area that has seen over 200 layoffs already.

Colombus, Ohio have now seen 175 service center workers lose their job in the past month. Walker, Michigian has let go of 240 of their call center employees. Milwuakee, Wisconsin have seen 173 employees lose their jobs, with Northern Kentucky laying off 215 employees, as well as 230 center jobs being lost in Austin, Texas.

In response to the 1000’s of jobs lost, Spectrum said the following: “Spectrum continues to invest in its network, technology and employees to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Our call center operations are a critical part of that experience, in which we invest and evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers.

As part of that change, customer service call center operations in these locations will be transitioned to other in-house U.S.-based centers that will offer employees more resources and opportunities in addition to allowing us to deliver information, training and technology to our representatives more efficiently. Our goal is to retain as much talent and experience as possible.

Employees at these locations may transfer with relocation benefits to other Spectrum customer service centers and are encouraged to apply for any open position within the company for which they are qualified. Employees who do not have a role with the company once the center closes will be entitled to comprehensive severance benefits.”

It is clear that Spectrum are heading in a new direction and plan to do things very differently going forward. They have lost a lot of customers this year, with Charter Commuciations (Spectrum Partner) reporting a loss of 405,000 customers in the first quarter of 2024.

The layoffs could be a direct response to the financial losses seen by the company this year.
