Warner Bros. Discovery has had a strong year, and this year only seems to improve for them as it progresses. It’s reported that Max’ Q3 will see 6M more subscribers gained than Q2. WBD are currently showing real dominance in the industry, and CEO David Zaslav seems very confident about the future.
The first half of the year saw 103.3M streaming customers for WBD. Whilst the numbers aren’t clear for all of their streaming services individually, it’s fair to assume that Max would be taking up a lot of those numbers. With the addition of the 6M subscribers in Q3, WBD would be looking at 110 million subscribers.
Why the increase though? There are a variety of reasons. Max is now available in more countries, which would lead to an increase in subscribers by default. However, the new bundle which includes Disney+ and Hulu certainly cannot be ignored.
Zaslav spoke more about the bundle and said: “The [average revenue per user] for us is compelling because for Disney and us, there’s no third party, we get all the money,” Zaslav explains.
“It’s doing really well. It’s early. It’s been seven, eight weeks. So we have to see what happens. But I bet the churn’s lower. I know the marketing is a lot lower because we’re doing it together, better together.”
“On any given day, between 30% and over 50% of viewing on basic cable in America is us, CNN, Food, TNT, TBS, TLC, Discovery,” he claimed “We are the beating heart of basic cable in America. And we’re the beating heart of basic cable in most countries in the world.”
WBD have always been a giant in the industry, and if they continue to grow at this rate, others in the industry will have no choice but to step up their game to match!
