The life story of Oprah has been anticipated by many, and the famous talk show host has gone to great lengths to protect the Documentary. It was set to be shown on Apple TV, but Oprah had a change of heart and paid serious money to buy back the rights.
Many have been waiting for the release for quite some time now, as the documentary was originally announced back in 2021. It was set to be a two-part series, at a time when Oprah and Apple had a tremendous relationship. Kevin Macdonald was also in line to direct the documentary.
He did go on to direct and finish both parts, but circumstances suggest that Macdonald and Oprah disagreed on the final edit, which would explain why it hasn’t been released.
“Kevin made the film, but Oprah didn’t like it and he refused to change it, and Oprah has paid back her fee to Apple,” a Hollywood source alleged to Page Six.
Oprah’s camp have explained that it simply “wasn’t the right time” to release the documentary, despite the rumours of Oprah’s views on the final edit.
“As the Apple TV+ deal was coming to an end, Ms. Winfrey bought back the rights to her docuseries and has since decided to put the doc on hold,” Oprah’s representatives said. “Ms. Winfrey believes Lisa Erspamer and Kevin Macdonald are incredibly talented filmmakers and is grateful for the time and energy they put into the project.”
Lisa Espramer is well known for her place in the film industry, and even produced Whitney Houston’s documentary, “Whitney”. In addition to this, Espramer is known to have a good relationship with Winfrey, but this has not been enough to finally bring the final product to our screens.
