Gardner-Webb Team News
Gardner-Webb have won 23 games and have lost 11 so far this season and earned the bid when they beat Radford 75-65 in the Big South Tournament Title Game and earned its first NCAA spot 17 years after becoming a Division 1 team. They have very slim chances of advancing into the next round but would surely know that the Cavaliers lost to a 16 seed. Bulldogs wont count on that though, but their coach believes that underdog tag helps them. They were 0-3 at one point in the season but managed to win their Conference winning 8 out of their last 9 games. The team have also won against teams like Georgia Tech and Wake Forest which would further give them confidence. It is very unlikely that their opponents will lose to them but who knows? David Efinayi has led form the front 18.7 PPG. D.J. Laster and Jose Perez will also be one’s to look out for.
Virginia Team News
Cavaliers have been a fluid team this season and truly deserve to be the number 1 seed. They are the number 1 seed for the fourth time in 6 years and are laying their eyes on the big prize firmly. This match should be easy for them considering the difference in quality with their opponents. Cavaliers wont be complacent though. They have faced elimination at the hands of far weaker opponents and will be sure to not repeat what happened the last time. There is no reason for us to deny that they can go all the way this year but sometimes the best laid plans don’t work out. We can hope though that it actually does work out because they have been a treat to watch. Kyle guy will lead with 15.6 PPG and the team has been scoring 71.8 PPG.
