Seeded 12th, Liberty Flames did the unexpected. They took their first NCAA win in school history against 5th seed Mississippi State Bulldogs. Liberty came back from a deficit of 10 points with 7 minutes to go and took an 80-76 against a high quality opposition. Caleb Homesley was the star of the night scoring 30 points out of which 22 came in the second half. He also hit the go ahead 3 pointer with 1 minute and 16 seconds to go. Lovell Cabbil also added 18 points along with Myo- Baxter-Bell who added 13points which made it possible. It shows a lot when a team goes down by 10 points and still gets the victory against a much higher ranked opposition. They will surely want to repeat what they did. But the Virginia Tech defense would be a tough one to break. Let’s see if they can go one step further in this elite tournament.
